Jewish Orthodox Wedding at Signature of Solon

Shira and Gabriel’s wedding day at Signature of Solon was action packed fun!

My last wedding of the year was a Jewish Orthodox wedding and I started my year with one too. It was great seeing this family
again. I had photographed two of Shira’s sisters weddings with Amy Ann in the past.

Shira’s thoughts on the day: “It meant so much to us that Gabriel’s large extended family from Mexico were there to celebrate
with us and that friends, groomsmen and family made it in from Canada which turned out to be quite difficult due to weather conditions.
  My bridesmaids came from all over and were especially helpful adding so much fun to the celebration.  Together with our parents, siblings,
and their spouses —this is truly what meant the most to both Gabriel and me.

“Signature of Solon was the perfect venue for us, because it had excellent spaces for all of our needs both before and during
the wedding.  Both the bridesmaids and groomsmen had festive and comfortable places to get ready.  Even the babies and babysitters had
a great room to play and nap in.  We also needed additional celebratory spaces for a traditional Jewish wedding.

 

“The event began with a grooms’ reception (Tisch) and bride’s reception (Kabbalat Panim), which gives the guests an opportunity
to greet the bride and groom prior to the ceremony.  The two receptions merge at the veiling (Bedekin), where we see each other, exchange
words, and receive blessings.  

“The traditional Jewish dancing culminates in “chairs in the air” followed by a chance for the guests to entertain the bride and
groom with silly props, jokes, funny memories, and tricks (shtick).

“Soul Farm is an amazingly talented and versatile band that can play a wide range of music and then Rock the House finished off
the evening perfectly with a high-energy after party.

“Amy Hissa from At Last Event Planning, Meghan Seeley from Signature of Solon, and Matt Heyl from RTH collaborated beautifully
to handle all the details.”

A few more thoughts from mother Sandy: “Steve and I were blessed with four daughters; the first three being closer together in age
and then our youngest, Shira. When the older three were dating their future husbands, I told Steve one night that I felt that they were
destined to all get married at around the same time! Sure enough we had three weddings within 10 months making for a crazy and joyous
period in all our lives. A few years later, it was Shira getting married. This qualified us parents for a Mezinke dance, a traditional
dance performed at Jewish weddings when the last child is married.

“For the Mezinke, the parents sit together while family and friends form a circle and dance around them to a specific tune holding
brooms. To be honest, I had mixed feelings about the Mezinke. I never understood the brooms and it seemed kind of silly. I even told
the band to make it short! Yet, part of me felt like “You know? We earned it fair and square! We earned that Mezinke!” And you know
what? It was actually magical.”

Mothers Sara and Sandy broke a plate to represent the seriousness of the commitment their children were taking.

Fathers Chaim and Steve brought Gabriel to see Shira.

Gabriel’s grandfather Jose gave a blessing to the couple.

Ring bearer Kai stayed on task.

Shira’s parents Sandy and Steve escorted her down the aisle and then locked hands afterwards.

Gabriel and his brother in law Joshua hugged after the ceremony.

The couple spent some time alone after the ceremony as everyone pounded on the wall and cheered.

Sisters Jannah, Devra and Tali entertained the couple.

Gabriel jumped in to do some pushups.

Ami and Jacob did some acrobatics.

Groomsmen Ami, William, Jacob and Aaron did some shtick.

Sandy and Steve gave a toast to their daughter and new son in law.

Shira’s sisters and their husbands listened to the toast.

Flower girl Ashira relaxed during the toasts.
