Maggie and Joe had a blast at their Grand Resort wedding!
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
The bride did not stop dancing all night and her energy was contagious.
Her grandmother Nancy started it off before dinner and toasts and even led a conga line. I don’t know for sure, but she must have been a professional dancer.
I’ve known Maggie’s family for many years and they are seriously the best people! I photographed the wedding of her brother Kevin and Baysaa earlier this year and ran into quite a few other friends I’ve known for years. The cocktail hour was important to Maggie and I have plenty of photos; however, they kept stopping me to talk, and that got me into a bit of trouble. 😉
“It meant a lot to have several pictures during the cocktail hour because I wanted the moments captured rather than portraits. I want to look at a picture when I’m 90 and remember saying cheers with my grandpa or the ways in which my friends really showed up in terms of fashion. A picture of someone mid-bite or mid-sentence might be where some people cut albums, but I think that those moments bring you back to the moment in a special way that I can tell stories to my children years down the road that portraits can’t.” LOVE this.
As we walked into the reception space before the wedding her father Pat, told me about the plates she imported for the event and all of the silver service pieces she’d collected for the last year or so. She was very intentional about the look, and it was impressive to see her aesthetic for the dinner.
“The colors pink, green, and blue added brightness and joy. It felt elegant yet jovial, which is how I try to live my life. My vision for the evening really came to life. The silver platters added a retro touch. I wanted it to feel like pages out of the Martha Stewart weddings, which, before the wedding, was all about content over true personality.”
Maggie told me she was excited about having a Grand Resort wedding since they were able to have family time before and after the wedding at this wonderful place.
“Everyone told me how the day would fly by, and it actually upset me every time I heard it. Yes, one day felt a lot faster than the year it took to plan things, and obviously went a little faster than perhaps a typical workday. But sleeping in, enjoying a breakfast with my brother and his girlfriend, and coffee and mimosas with my cousins in the pool were all ways I mindfully slowed the day down. I waited until the latest time slot to get my hair and makeup done as a way to slow things down as well and it paid off.
“Watching the flower girls, whom I’ve nannied since Lilly was 5 weeks old, walk down the aisle (even though they went backward and dumped the petals, etc.) was a moment I’ll never forget. Then walking with my dad, the only daughter, I knew it would be an emotional moment for both of us, and it was. Seeing everyone I love looking back at us as he smiled and led me to the altar was a moment I’ll never forget. Plus, forgetting the bouquet was definitely the comedic relief I needed, and thank god one of the event planners noticed and brought it to me promptly.”
The ceremony was on the lawn just steps away from the cocktail hour and reception, so that made it super convenient for their Grand Resort wedding. And I already mentioned the legendary night of dancing, so if you’re still reading, it’s time to enjoy the photos!
