Sara and Chad’s wedding was a full day of fun.
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
The wedding day started with getting ready photos at the Old Stone Church in downtown Cleveland.
What a beautiful place! This building has been around since 1884. Several earlier versions
succumbed to fire with the congregation beginning in 1889. The historic Presbyterian
church is located on Public Square.
Chad’s reasons for choosing the Old Stone Church? “It has great history, it’s beautiful and
the ministers were very nice to us. It’s right in the heart of Cleveland. It has
been amazing to see the transformation of this town over the last several years.
We always liked living in Cleveland, but now we’re proud of our town.”
Chad said they had a realization as they got closer to the wedding day. “Growing up my maternal
Grandma Helen used to live off State road in Parma. She picked the smallest room
in the house to be her master because she could see the Terminal Tower. As a result,
I grew up loving it too. Since she’s no longer with us, it was like she was there
walking out of that church that day and seeing the Terminal tower watching over us.”
Love that!
We did a first look in the upstairs pews before the ceremony and when it was over the rain had
started up so we found a few of my favorite places where we could stay dry and take some photos.
From there the couple had a must visit to the Winking Lizard in Peninsula for a drink. I love
when the couple has a place that’s important to them for photos and we have time to stop.
Chad said, “Winking Lizard holds a special place in our relationship. I really got to know Sara
skiing at Boston Mills on Friday nights. It all started when she was the only person to
ever take me up on the offer to teach them how to ski and she fell in love with the sport.
Every week, we’d go to the Winking Lizard in Peninsula, then ski from 8 PM to 2 AM. Also,
we love to come down there to run.”
They also just sold their house and are building one in Peninsula that should be done in a month.
From there it was off to the Twinhaven Reception Hall in Twinsburg for the rest of the night.
They had a wooden ski guestbook and ski cake topper to keep the theme going.
Toward the end they let a Sky Lantern into the air.
“This plays a neat role in our relationship. Our first date involved watching Tangled which
has a big lantern scene. I incorporated that into my proposal. I hung paper lanterns
all over and we lit one of those lanterns off. We slow danced to the lantern song from
that movie too (wedding and proposal)”
Sara’s mother Donna helped her with her dress.
The couple played skee ball: “I don’t think I’ve ever beat her once. She’s super competitive
in just about everything. Like the Browns on Sunday, I just keep having hope I’m going to win.”
