A quick trip to Chicago to meet Gina and Chuck made for some great images! When I think of the city the “L” trains always come to mind.

Everyone calls the Chicago Transit Authority’s elevated trains
the “L”. We were heading to the car and I decided to get
a quick photo of the couple as one whizzed by. While we
were doing photos every few minutes the sound above us
would be deafening. Once the couple was in place I think
about ten minutes went by before another passed overhead.
But it was worth the wait!
We started in downtown Chicago near the Chicago River.
I love the bridges there and already can’t wait to go back
and shoot more in the area. It was rainy off and on so
I wanted to keep us undercover as much as possible.
As a wedding photographer I love having time to get to know the couple
before their wedding day. Engagement sessions allow us
to get comfortable with each other and they get to see how
great they look through my eyes and camera. I often hear
people say they don’t look that good in photos and I
understand. I’m not a model either. But the engagement
photography session really helps and I highly recommend it.
After that we headed to North Street Beach but a torrential
downpour made us reconsider. A few others ideas were off
due to the Lollapalooza Rock Festival taking over Grant
Park and the Buckingham Fountain.
Up next was the Adler Planetarium area. I attended an
excellent workshop with Australian wedding photographer
Ryan Schembri and we took photos in the area
and I knew I wanted to return one day for more.
We only had a little bit more time before Gina and Chuck
had to catch a flight to Colorado where they now
live after a stint in Chicago.
Isn’t it amazing how many fun photos we made in less than two hours?
Finally at the end the skies opened up and we had a bit of sun before they flew off!
Can’t wait for their wedding!
Please check out another Chicago engagement session I did
last winter for a bride to be also named Gina.
