Karla and Jason’s Union Club wedding was nonstop fun!
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
Karla got ready at the Union Club and Jason was with his guys at his downtown Cleveland apartment where they got wild and crazy.
This was my third wedding at the Union Club this year and it’s such a great venue. The ceremony was at St. Maron’s Church
and only my second one there-the last was about a decade ago! Then we were off to the Cleveland Cultural Gardens and I can’t
count how many times I was there this year. It’s always full of photo possibilities.
They were so fun to be around all day and this sweet couple gave me so many wonderful quotes about the day. I’ll let them
say the rest.
Karla: “I kept my bridal party closest to my heart with the people I chose. My loving older sister/bestfriend Juliana, my
two best friends from childhood Alexandra and Kelsie -both since before Kindergarten. Plus my beautiful cousin Roberta who I always
looked up to when I was a child and my amazing former roommate/new sister/sister of the groom Nicole. I also couldn’t get ready
without including the rest of my amazing family including my Aunts from brazil, my mom and my cousin.”
Jason: “The guys consisted of my cousin I grew up with who is like a brother to me, two of my best grade school/high school
friends that I’ve known since I was five, my future brother-in-law, and three of my college friends. These are people who I’ve shared
many of my biggest life experiences with and who I feel have helped me to become the person I am today and truly value their friendship.
“St. Maron’s Church is a staple to the Lebanese in Cleveland. My family is from a village in Lebanon called Aitaneet and
when my parents immigrated to Cleveland this was their place of community. It has also been considered my family’s church and where we
all come together for weddings, baptisms, and other major events.”
Karla: “Both of our styles have always been simple and classic so we really wanted to find a venue that had that look. The
minute we saw Union club we both fell in love. The subtle yet elegant beauty of the club charmed us immediately. From the rich mahogany
wood to the timeless crown molding, we knew it would be the perfect reception venue for style and they did not disappoint. The Union Club
staff did an amazing job and their chef served some incredibly delicious food.
“One of my most memorable moments was walking into the reception room for the first time. Seeing all the hard work we put
into planning in front of our eyes. The room was just breathtaking and everything was more beautiful than I could have imagined. My favorite
part of all was seeing the cake topper of our dog, Gunter, on the cake. It broke my heart that he couldn’t be with us on our special day but
made me so happy to see a little version of him there on the cake.”
Jason: “The whole day was going by so fast. Karla and I barely had any time to ourselves at this point. Maria then grabbed
us and took us to the reception hall to take a moment to ourselves and to me, it was almost as if time stopped. We had a second to be
together and a moment to ourselves and that was so special.”
Karla: “Our wedding planner Maria had been a huge help from the start. I was completely lost in the wedding process and
Maria was right there to point me in the right direction. She helped with everything from décor to the coordination, and she connected
me to many of my vendors who all did phenomenal jobs. On the day of, Maria was also a huge help and did an incredible job. She kept
everything running smoothly and made sure nothing was out of place. Together with the event coordinator at the Union Club, Nancy, they
made sure the day was perfect for me and all my guests. It was truly a magical experience.”
We’ll end with Jason: “The wedding entrance was an amazing moment for me. The whole wedding party had been introduced
and you could hear and feel the excitement in the room. Then everything paused and the two drummers came out and surrounded me and
Karla. At this point she looked at me and asked “What’s happening?” which was when I realized I forgot to mention this tradition to
her (sorry!). We then had our traditional Lebanese wedding entrance and with everyone watching as we were introduced for the first time
as husband and wife. The dance felt like such a celebration with all of our loved ones around us.”
Okay I was wrong. One more quote from Karla! “Another memorable moment was actually the last 15 minutes of the wedding.
DJ Georgie played “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and as we were all dancing, our friends and family began to form a circle around Jason and I,
swaying and singing to the song. In that moment I felt so much love from everyone around us and I couldn’t believe that this wonderful
day that took a whole year of planning was about to be over. It was a very special moment that we will never forget.”
Karla’s mother Isabel helped her with her dress.
Groomsman Alex seemed to be a Lord of the Dances fan.
Best man Brandon helped with Jason’s tie.
Groomsman Richard had a bottle moment.
I love finding new ways to photograph the Union Club and I will bet no one has done this photo.
Matron of Honor Juliana makes sure Karla is perfect for the ceremony.
Avery and Bradley melted some hearts as they walked down the aisle.
The cell phones captured the bride as she walked down the aisle with her mother.
I love this moment as Jason took a breath at the beginning of the ceremony.
The cell phones were also ready to capture the couple as they walked down the aisle as a married couple.
The couple entered the reception with some drummers for lots of Lebanese dancing.
Jason danced with his father Wadi by his side.
Jason watched Karla dance with her mother Isabel.
Jason danced with his mother Sue.
