St. Maron’s Wedding
Nahla and Luke’s St. Maron’s wedding featured a traditional Maronite crowning ceremony, where golden crowns symbolize the couple as the heads of their new family and household and her Syrian family added an international flair to the day.
St. Maron’s Wedding.
After some getting ready photos at a nearby hotel with Luke I went to see Nahla as she put on her dress. She talked to her grandmother in Syria and Aunt and Cousin in Spain on the phone while getting ready as fought back some tears.
Nahla: “The day of the wedding our close family members came to my family’s home to celebrate the bride. We had big drums come to the house and there was a lot of dancing. It was so fun kicking the day off with smiles and great music. It was also the first time in a long time that I’ve seen both sides of the family in one place. It was a special time to bring everyone together.
Her eldest Uncles led her out of the house to the car.
“Our church choice comes from my background being Syrian and a Maronite. St Maron Church welcomed us with open arms, and the priest helped us see how special it truly is to get married under God in a Maronite church. After a few meetings with him, it became clear to us the church is where we wanted to get married.”
“The moment that felt the most emotional to Luke was standing across from me at the altar. He felt overwhelmed with joy, thinking about how beautiful I looked and thinking about our future together. We kept looking into each other’s eyes focusing on one another throughout the entire ceremony. In those moments, it truly felt like the day was about uniting our love our God.
“What surprised me the most about the day is the music being enjoyed by both sides of the family. Having an Arabic singer and big drums was a great choice for entertainment.
The ceremony was at the Bertram Inn in Aurora.
“The part of the wedding that felt the most “me” was the father-daughter dance. I’ve loved the Arabic song since I was a little kid. It became our song because I would always ask my dad Shhab to play it at home. He enjoyed it so much and hyped up the crowd at the wedding turning it into a beautiful Arabic father-daughter dance moment.”
