Andrea and Dylan’s Hines Hill wedding was beautiful in the woodsy setting.

This Hines Hill wedding was a first time I was at the venue. It was also the first time I’d
had square dancing during the reception. When I heard about that I was very intrigued
as the couple is not a “country” kind of couple so I knew the contrast would be interesting.
I used to work with Andrea’s mother, Ellen, when I was a photographer at the Plain Dealer.
I always enjoyed talking with her and it had been a few years since we’d caught on things
so it was nice when she was at the consult with Andrea and Dylan. At the ceremony and
reception I also got to see other past coworkers which was another bonus.
Everyone got ready at the Stanford House which is conveniently located for a Hines Hill wedding.
Melanie of Oak and Honey Events and her staff were a big plus getting Hines Hills wedding ready.
Andrea tells of how they found the location: “I was working with Cuyahoga Valley National Park
the summer of 2016 and Dylan visited me one weekend and decided to go for a hike
in the park while I was at work. He stumbled upon the Stanford House and later Hines Hill
while hiking and realized that if we got married soon, this would be a place to consider.
“The scenery was stunning and it had this wonderful feeling that both Dylan and I love about
parks and outdoor spaces. When it came time to pick a venue, we looked around many places,
but settled on Hines Hill mainly because of the National Park connection, the price point,
and more importantly the beautiful vegetation and ambiance that struck a chord with Dylan
that day exploring the Park.”
After the first look and portraits in the area we headed over for the Hines Hill wedding.
There was a threat of rain for the ceremony and it did end up happening. This didn’t bother
Andrea too much.
“I was half hoping it would rain a little, just a little, because rain is of course good luck
on a wedding day, but I didn’t expect it to be so well timed! Dylan and I got to the ketubah
signing ceremony in the barn, before the wedding ceremony, right as the rain started. During the
ketubah (or marriage contract) signing, the thunder cracked in the distance, the lightning was
intense, and the rain poured and poured on the barn’s roof.
“The theme for the ketubah art around the contract I chose was water (it had a beautiful ocean
scene around it). Water is meaningful to both of our lives in what we study, where we live,
our passions, and even how we met each other in the first place trying to help protect water
quality. I realized, as did most other people, how coincidental, and also meaningful and powerful,
the storm was during the ketubah signing.”
During the reception the Allegheny Hellbenders played with caller Sean Fen. It was their first
Jewish wedding and they’d never played the horah for a wedding before either. Andrea worked with
them months ahead of time for the event.
“We chose to do square dancing because we wanted people to participate in the dancing. Dylan and
I also enjoy square and contra dancing, and so it made sense to go in this direction. Too many
times people just do two-stepping or don’t dance at all at wedding, and as a dancer myself, I
couldn’t have that! Almost everyone came up to me and praised the band’s performance.”
Andrea checked her makeup with Noelle.
Dylan and groomsmen Tyler, Zach and best man Peter walked outside the Stanford House.
Andrea’s sister, had her makeup done by Noelle.
Andrea’s father, Joseph, saw his daughter for the first time in her dress.
After the rain stopped everyone headed into the tent for the ceremony.
Dylan’s parents, Sean and Susan, walked him down the aisle.
Groomsmen Tyler and Zach carried Andrea’s dress as she walked down the aisle with her parents.
