Brittany and Shaun had a super fun Country Club of Hudson Wedding.
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
This was my first time at the Country Club of Hudson and I would be back for another wedding weeks later.
Lauren wrote lots of great quotes and information for the blog. I love it when my couples share so much!
Hudson is Lauren’s hometown and a special place to her which Drew fell in love with after visiting too.
“It has its own romantic, small-town charm that I’ve yet to experience anywhere else. We started our life together in Virginia
Beach, VA, but we wanted to integrate Hudson as part of our story too.
“When we finally decided we wanted to get married in Hudson, we knew exactly where we wanted both the ceremony and reception to
be held. Growing up, I remember seeing couples that got married in Hudson taking pictures at the gazebo and downtown—it was somewhat a
community event, where those driving by would honk or wave or shout some other congratulations. It was very fun getting to experience
that for ourselves!
“We chose the Old Church for a few reasons: First, like Hudson, it is a very special place for my family. My mom and uncle were
baptized there and my brother and I went to preschool there. Actually, the house Drew’s family stayed at for the wedding weekend was my
preschool director’s old house! Very small world, which is very Hudson. Like many older homes in downtown Hudson, the church served as a
stop on the Underground Railroad and even had a trap door where escaped slaves would hide. The church also happened to be the original
location of the church we went to growing up: St. Mary’s Catholic Church. I can’t imagine many can say they got married where they went
to preschool, etc. We loved the history and intimacy of the space, and it ended up being the perfect size for our wedding.”
“The country club is equally special. My brother and I grew up going to the club: we spent nearly every day of every summer there
growing up. And when Drew first visited Hudson, I think the first place we went out to eat was the club. We’ve had many celebrations
there over the years. In fact, it’s also where my parents had their own wedding reception—in the very same room we did. My dad in particular
loves the club. He was an avid golfer and served as the club’s president for a time. Being there felt like my dad was there too, and we so
loved enjoying the same space he loved so much.”
All of my pre wedding communication was with Lauren’s mother, Cynthia, and she did all the planning.
Lauren: “She was so wonderful and patient with us trying to juggle our jobs and stuff. And she managed to do ALL of this planning
for us on top of being a full-time trial attorney. As one myself, I can tell you it’s a busy occupation.
“She coordinated everything, searched for, booked, and coordinated with vendors, and helped with all the small details with a
meticulous and incomparable drive. One time, she and my grandmother drove down ten hours to Virginia Beach, and my mom brought with
her cake tasting samples from a few bakeries so we could choose our cake. We will forever be grateful for the most perfect and special
day she gave us.
The dancing at the wedding was very expressive so there’s more photos than usual on my blog posts. The brother-bride dance was
one as you will see.
“My brother Michael and I have a long history of making up silly dances together -and often right on the spot. I knew I didn’t
want to do a slow dance since my dance with Michael wasn’t meant to be a substitution for a father/daughter dance.
“Africa” by Toto is one of my favorite songs of all time and it seemed like a no-brainer for Michael and me. True to form, we
hadn’t rehearsed or even discussed what the dance would be beforehand, we just did what we always do: have fun!
“My dad was a very special and very funny person. He was a brilliant attorney, a loving father, and an incredible friend to all.
He passed away unexpectedly in mid-December 2017, just after I finished my first semester of law school. I was worried I would be sad on
my wedding day, missing my dad, but I wasn’t. I felt at peace as I could feel his presence there.
“Drew also unfortunately lost his dad to cancer in May of 2018. Our shared tragedies brought us close together early on in our
relationship. Drew’s dad equally had a larger than life personality, having a positive and meaningful impact on every person lucky enough
to know him. He was an amazing dad that raised an amazing family. Though I was not one of the lucky few to meet him, I could feel his love
and presence on our special day too.
“We both missed our dads on our big day, just as we miss them every day. But they were there with us in spirit, and I know they’d
be very proud of how everything turned out.
I was excited when I found out there would be fireworks at the reception. “The fireworks were a beautiful surprise from my mom. She
told us we were going to have fireworks, but she didn’t tell us the magnitude of the show! It was so special and I know our guests really
enjoyed it as well.”
“Drew and I left for our honeymoon in Aruba two days after the wedding. We brought a BIG piece of wedding cake with us and ate it on
the plane on the way there with some champagne to wash it down. It was super fun!”
Brooke steamed some dresses.
Lauren with her mother Cynthia.
Drew said something that really made Sean laugh.
Lauren’s brother Michael walked her down the aisle.
Drew’s niece Evelyn was the flower girl.
Lauren’s dance with her brother Michael was so epic I had to include a few photos.
Bridesmaids Lexi and Lily enjoyed dancing all night long.
