Steph and Matt’s day was so fun with their Great Lakes Science Center Wedding.
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
This was my second time for a Great Lakes Science Center wedding and I was excited to see what kinds of photos
we’d make. I love the ceremony out on the balcony overlooking Lake Erie and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Not to discount the William G. Mather Steamship and Voinovich Park!
The view continued during the reception as well with their floor to ceiling windows where you can watch the sun
setting on the Rock Hall.
I’m going to let Steph talk quite a bit in this blog post. I always ask my couples for stories to share on the day
and she gave me so much I can’t possibly use half of it!
“We wanted our wedding to have an outdoor aspect to it and to be on or near water if possible. I just happened to
see that the Science Center does weddings as I scrolled through the Knot one day. We went to see it and I
realized how prime of a location that it really is – especially for what we wanted. We all forget how fortunate
we are to live on a Great Lake! We aren’t necessarily people that ‘love science’ but the Science Center was
truly a perfect mix of a fun, unique and beautiful indoor reception venue with an unbelievably gorgeous backdrop
and scenery for a ceremony. We’d do it over 10x there!
“My dad retired from Cleveland Cliffs and my family has always admired the “the ship that built Cleveland”. I have
great memories from when he’d take us to see the Labor Day Air Show right from the huge deck of the Mather.
After getting ready photos on the west side we did a First Look near Edgewater Park plus a photo with their
sweet Schnoodle dog Alvin.
A nearby homeowner allowed us to use her property for some photos and it really looks like we transported to the
English countryside. She went in the house before I could thank her and it was such a sweet gesture.
Then we got the ever popular bridal party photo with the Cleveland sign and it was off to where the couple first
met – ESPN Cleveland where Matt is producer/host.
“We met during my college internship there. We were friendly but didn’t work much together because I was there
to focus on sales and marketing experience rather than on-air. I didn’t know that he liked me until I got
back to OSU for senior year and a mutual friend told me. According to Matt he was too nervous to ask me out
that summer. I moved back to Cleveland a year later and we went on a date later that summer and the rest is
history,” Steph said.
A few photos at Public Square and it was time for the ceremony and reception at their Great Lakes Science Center
wedding. Steph’s bridesmaid, Abby, was a big help with the dress styling as she does this for a living.
Enough words-enjoy the photos!
Matt’s four brothers, Chris, Mark, Brian and Michael were groomsmen.
Matt’s mother, MaryBeth, helped him with his boutonnière.
Steph does not look much older than her senior portrait.
Her mother, Mary Beth, made sure the veil was just right.
The First Look!
Alvin!
Thanks again to that friendly homeowner with the gorgeous house and gardens!
Behind the bridal party is “Corner Light”, a project by Cleveland SGS, a group of five artists that prefer to remain anonymous.
Steph and her father, Ed, dance, as his brother, John, blew bubbles at them he had saved from the ceremony exit.
Steph’s mom Mary Beth decided to dance with her veil while little Evelyn burned up the dance floor.
