Christine and Carson’s Mary Queen of Peace Wedding in Cleveland was so beautiful.
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
When they mentioned they were having a Mary Queen of Peace wedding ceremony I looked it up. This confirmed it was
one where I had photographed a wedding before. I love the creative possibilities in this Catholic church. The photos below will
show you why very quickly.
The beautiful stained glass windows, the blue background at the altar with the golden starbust of Jesus on the cross
and so much more makes it a wonderful place for a wedding ceremony.
I started with the guys at the couple’s nearby home and then went to 78th Street Studios for the ladies getting ready.
Then it was time for the Mary Queen of Peace wedding. Father Douglas Brown did a wonderful job leading the ceremony and I loved
the words he said about the couple.
Christine: “I have been going to that church since I was maybe four or five years old. I still go to church there every
Sunday with my mother Eileen. It was very meaningful to me to have our ceremony at the church and to honor my culture with
the veil, cord and coins. I am president of the Philippine American Society of Ohio so it was so important to me to
incorporate Filipino culture into the day.
“During a Filipino ceremony there is blessing from the parents, in this case my mother and her Uncle Fred. There is
a ceremonial lace veil that goes over the bride’s head and groom’s shoulder to symbolize being clothed as one. A ceremonial
cord which is called a Yugal is draped around the two people in a figure eight, symbolizing an eternal bond of fidelity by
those providing the cord. The 13-coin ceremony called the Arrhae are provided to the couple to promise each other prosperity
and good fortune between them. An honored guest, in this case my mother, provided the coins to us. Then the unity candle
represents the union of the couple into a positive and bright marriage, which was lit by us.
After family portraits we made a few fun photos of the couple with the stained glass as a backdrop. Then we were off to
78th Street Studios.
The couple had their cocktail hour in the pinball lounge so everyone could enjoy the games. Christine: “We wanted to
have something for guests to do at all times during the event and the games gave them the perfect activity to stay stimulated
and engaged. Whether someone is more introverted or a socialite, we felt the games and lounge area were a perfect blend for
all people. We loved the art and the style of 78th Street Studios as well. We thought more introverted people could appreciate
the art if they were overstimulated by activities. Plus, Carson and the boys love video games so why not.”
The night at 78th Street Studios was full of fun and dancing with a not to be forgotten toast by the best man! If
you were there you know what I mean.
Christine’s mom Eileen helped with her earrings.
Carson with his parents Susan and Glenn.
Uncle Fred and Eileen walked Christine down the aisle.
Jenny and Justin enjoyed the games at cocktail hour.
Christine was overwhelmed with joy when she saw the room. “The wedding coordinators Engaged & Co really put my mind at ease during high tension moments of the day and took the reins on things, so I didn’t have to.”
Isabelle, Ethan, Rowena and Claudia made faces at the photo booth.
Whenever I find out a couple is doing a Mary Queen of Peace wedding in Cleveland I’m very happy. It’s easily one of
