The Madison Wedding Venue

Katie and Mike has an industrial jazz age vibe for the the Madison wedding venue wedding in Cleveland.

We started with getting ready photos at the upstairs rooms for the Madison wedding venue.

When the couple was ready they did a first look and then we went around the east side of Cleveland for some industrial location vibes at some of my favorite spots.

While taking photos a man in a pickup truck approached us.

I’ll let Katie tell you more as it’s a funny story: “The man said he owns an empty old warehouse down the street and offers us access to the rooftop for “great views of the Cleveland skyline.” Scott was excited about the possibilities and always being up for adventure I say “let’s do it.”

“Mike, on the other hand, the more cautious one, thinks I’m crazy but agrees to go along with it. This is not out of the ordinary, though, as I’m often convincing him to go along with me on on crazy adventures… our recent middle eastern trip being a recent example of that.

“We pull up to an old warehouse that’s dark, missing floors, cobwebs, rickety old staircase made of random boards. We get up on the rooftop, have to climb over onto another rooftop (in my big white dress), meanwhile, no real city skyline to be seen. We were able to capture some cool photos, though, which I think visually capture the wedding’s rustic theme.

“I think the funniest part of this story is actually the wedding party’s perspective. I learned days later what the things were like outside for them and the conversations that were had. All they knew was that we met a stranger, disappeared into his abandoned building in Cleveland and have now been gone for a long time. They were just told to “stay outside.” Mike and I don’t have our cellphones on us, they don’t have Scott’s number and have no way to get ahold of us.

“They then see a group of men walk out of the building in hazmat suits. Their minds start going to the show Dexter or some sort of horror scenario. They all decide together that if Mike and I don’t reappear by a certain time, they are going to go in and search for us. I don’t know why but I find hearing their perspectives hilarious.”

That was funny! I didn’t know they were worried about us.

“By the time we toured the Madison wedding venue we had already toured more than half a dozen others. Meeting Anthony and his dog and seeing the venue, it just immediately felt right and like “home.” The building had the aesthetic vibe I was looking for and Anthony felt like someone I could vibe with and trust. When we walked out of our tour that day, I turned to Mike and said, “This is it. This is the place.

“I’ve always been particularly drawn towards the progressive era and the jazz age, have a love for art deco design and enjoy genealogy. Half my ancestors on my dad’s side have been in America since before the Revolutionary War, however, the other half of my ancestors on my mom’s side immigrated to America in the early 1900’s from Europe, particularly Ireland and Central Europe. Mike’s ancestors from Italy arrived around that time and their lives followed similar trajectories.These were working class people who came directly to Cleveland in pursuit of opportunities during the Industrial Revolution. They worked in Cleveland’s steel mills, foundries, railways, etc.

“I guess my historic, rustic, industrial theme was somewhat of a nod or homage to our roots. Mike and I are both in our late 30’s and the last of our siblings and friends to get married, and it took us a long time to find each other. It seemed fitting to complete the story of our families and tie history up to this point in a nice bow.”
