Like Brittan and Jay this White Rose Barn wedding is full of energy and emotion!
Please enjoy, Scott Shaw Photo | Cleveland Wedding Photographer
What a great day this was with my friends Brittan and Jay on their wedding day.
We started in the bridal suite with Brittan and then the guys took a warm walk on a country
road for some photos. After an epic first look we took the couple to a location I had noticed a mile
down the road called Lover’s Lane. I didn’t realize it had a cool old sign saying that until we got
there and another bonus was the abandoned schoolhouse 100 yards away.
After a few minutes we had to rush back as the rain started coming down. By the time we got
back to the White Rose Barn it was a deluge. This meant the outdoor ceremony would be moved inside
and at first that seemed sad but the photos we got made up for it.
Brittan and her positive attitude took it in stride. “The original plan was to hold a beautiful
ceremony outside with a breathtaking view and a wonderfully decorated pergola however the weather
had other plans. As long as two people say “I do” the day is a success.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more intimate, pure ceremony that truly allowed people to see the
love that we share for each other. We both had a hard time holding back tears during the vows we
had written for each other.”
Some of the following was covered in their engagement blog and we’ll share some of the info here
again for those who don’t know. This was mentioned during the vows and their toasts and lots of
laughter was shared hearing it.
Brittan: “The first Orangetheory Fitness in northeastern Ohio opened in Rocky River in December
of 2015 and Jay was one of the coaches. Post college and no longer in competitive ice skating after
about 20 years, I wanted to find a workout that would keep myself motivated. Being semi-familiar with
OTF since Lindsay, the oldest of our four sisters was a coach out in Denver I convinced my sister
Jaime to try out a class with me. Jay was the coach of our first class and despite not knowing at
all what was going on I signed up for a premier membership.
“We frequently ended up at the studio at the same time. Either because I was taking his class or
he was stalking the class lists to see which one I would be in so he could work out next to me.
After a couple of weeks, I knew that if Jay wasn’t going to ask me out I was going to ask him.
He says he was going to ask me eventually but I beat him to it! One day after class I turned around
and asked, “would you like to go out sometime?” and Jay said “absolutely” and the rest is history!”
Meredith with Rain Wedding Planning was a big help on the wedding day. “She’s pretty much known me
since I was about 4 years old and even coached me at one point alongside my head coach for my synchronized
skating team in middle/high school. I was so fortunate that I remembered she had her own event planning
business and when I reached out to her to inquire about her day-of coordinator services and she was thrilled
to accept the position. I literally couldn’t imagine having anyone else by my side that day to make sure
things ran smoothly and to just be a constant smiling face throughout the whole day. It truly helped relieve
so much stress about the little details for me. Her team is amazing!”
One interesting story of the day: Braxton, one of the best men and his wife Stephanie had to leave
the reception early since she was beginning to go into labor. Their baby boy was born early in the
morning the day after the wedding. “Luckily we were able to snap a photo with the soon to be new
parents prior to them leaving as Steph was literally in labor!”
Mom Leslie and sister Jaime helped Brittan with her dress.
Brittan’s father Dirk was thrilled to see his daughter in her dress.
“We chose White Rose Barn for its beauty and elegance after touring two other barn venues.
We loved the simplicity and beauty of the venue!”
Lover’s Lane and the abandoned schoolhouse. What a find!
Jaime, Elizabeth and Alissa tried to stay out of the puddles as it rained.
Campbell and Caden greeted Uncle Jay after they provided “Ring Security”.
It was an emotional entrance for Brittan and her parents.
Willow the flower girl continued her duties during the ceremony.
Donuts? Yes please!
These donuts had the splat points symbol from Orangetheory Fitness and were a must for the wedding.
Jay’s parents, Michael and Karen entered the reception with a twirl!
Brittan’s parents Dirk and Leslie made quite an entrance to the reception.
Dirk used a softball for his notes during his toast.
Maid of honor Elizabeth entertained the couple.
Best man Andy gave a toast.
Jay and his mother Karen during their dance.
A wild garter retrieval was followed by a wilder catch of the garter by Branson who ran out of the venue after catching it.
Brittan: “Jay recruited 30 to 40 wedding guests to partake in a group shotgun and it was pretty epic!”
